Make the most of your trip to the Haddonfield Farmer’s Market

Being new in town, I try to get to the Farmer’s market every Saturday that I can. I love meeting the farmers and vendors and finding what’s in season. After a winter quarantine, our two-year-old was also pretty excited to be out and about among people. This market is a small one, but it’s got a lot going for it. Since the little one hasn’t been out a lot, I wanted to prep her before we left to get her excited and also make the most of our time there.

We’ve got a toy kitchen in our playroom with pretend fruits and vegetables. I looked up what was seasonal beforehand and talked about what we should be looking for at the farmer’s market. This gave her a little prep and a mission (other than running around grabbing whatever she could at eye level).

Make it a game

The Happy Hippo Toy Store downtown has lots of fun vegetable and fruit kits, like this farmers market set ($39.99).

Once we were there, we found peaches and summer squash (as planned) and also bought some delicious lime sweetness smoothies from Seashore Smoothies. We asked which fruits and vegetables went into the smoothie and watched the blender demolish them! We sat down in the shade of the bandstand, listened to some music, and sipped on our smoothies.

Since our trip, babe has helped me cut up the zucchini with some nylon training knives for dinner, and has been enjoying peaches in her lunch.

Next week, we’re going to ask the farmers questions about their local farms!

HaddonMama Breakdown:

Stroller friendly: Kind of - it gets crowded but you can definitely weave a stroller in and out of the stands (a double will be tight!)
Food: There’s smoothies, sweets, pretzels, and also usually a more substantial option or two like tacos or breakfast sandwiches.
Cost: Bring some cash, but lots of vendors take cards too!
